Filmový priemysel prešiel od svojho zvniku obrovský kus cesty. Spočiatku mali filmári pre špeciálne efekty k dispozícii len fotomanipulácie, zmenšené modely a podobné veci. V dnešnej informatickej dobe sú možnosti ďaleko rozsiahlejšie.

Počítače dokážu také veci, o ktorých sa filmárom ešte pred niekoľkými desiatkami rokov ani nemohlo snívať. Hollywood vďaka ním priniesol filmový priemysel takmer k dokonalosti a dnes je nemožné nájsť film, ktorý by nebol upravovaný v grafických videoprogramoch v postprodukcii. Pozitívna stránka na tom je tá, že väčšina z nich je na takej úrovni, že bežné oko diváka zásah postprodukcie ani nepostrehne.
